Gloucester Freight Latest News

I read with interest the setting up of a panel of experts to investigate how modern technology can help the maritime freight industry flourish. Amongst proposals to be considered are the exciting prospects of autonomous ships and digital ports.

The Trade Secretary, Chris Grayling, announced the formation of the expert team who will work in unison with the industry to ensure Britain remains at the forefront of global shipping in the future.

At the same time he launched a call for evidence for Maritime 2050. This is the government’s strategy to make the most of future opportunities to allow the maritime industries to thrive and seeks the views of stakeholders both inside and outside the industry.

The aim is to highlight a number of themes important for the growth of the UK’s maritime industry. These topics will include technology, trade, infrastructure, environment, people and security. It is hoped that a series of objectives can be set for each of these themes to allow progress to be analysed.

It is expected that economic growth will be achieved as investors appreciate the opportunities available. Technological ideas include digital advances to enable shipping to be more efficient and the use of low-drag paint to reduce fuel consumption.

It looks like full steam ahead!
