Gloucester Freight Latest News

I recently spotted a post that amused me. It was on the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce website, of all places, and was from a company called Millennium Cargo Services Ltd.

They had the relatively straightforward task of shipping a container to the United States. It arrived safely enough and was selected for a random customs check. This is standard procedure and nothing unusual.

I noted that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released data for global air freight markets for January 2018 and they make very encouraging reading.

Demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), rose 8% in January compared with the same time last year. This also showed an increase from the 5.8% annual growth recorded for December 2017.

I know that the freight industry plays a vital role in this country’s economy, delivering goods to construction sites, hospitals, schools and supermarkets across the UK. The general public, however, generally remain unaware of the economic significance and the sheer number of jobs available in the freight sector.

I am pleased to say that this attitude may be changing thanks to a campaign called Fit for the Future, led by the trade newspaper Freight Industry Times.
